Abstract
Osteoclastic activity that changes the size and shape of the gubernacular canal (eruption pathway) during eruption of the permanent succedaneous premolar occurs in close proximity to the roots of the deciduous tooth. Osteoclasis in the gubernacular canal in pre-eruption and early eruption stages does not result in odontoclasis of the deciduous roots, and the genesis of odontoclasis remains undetermined. However, in later stages of eruption, osteoclasis in the canal appears to contribute to the root resorption process.
