1. In order to ensure that transient effects were eliminated, the investigation was conducted using a rigidly mounted model i n a low turbulence level airstream. The testing was performed in the 1.2m x 0.9m (4 ft x 3 ft) Experimental IUW Turbulence Wind Tunnel a t the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. This is a low speed wind tunnel having a contraction ratio of 31:l which gives a streamwise turbulence level of approximately 0.01%over roughly the central 1 m x 0.8 m of the cross-section of the working section.
