Abstract
Introduction. The most common cause of formations in the abdominal cavity in female fetuses and newborns are ovarian cysts. The appearance of these cysts is due to excessive stimulation of the fetal ovaries by maternal estrogens and placental human chorionic gonadotropin, which causes follicular dysgenesis. Diagnosis is based on the results of antenatal and postnatal echography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Description of the case. We present our own clinical observation of intrauterine torsion of an ovarian cyst with a fallopian tube, followed by self-amputation of the appendages in patient M., who was operated on at the age of 4 months.Conclusion. Ultrasound screening is the main diagnostic method for early detection of congenital ovarian pathology both antenatally and postnatally. The absence in our case of clinical manifestations after birth, as well as the presence of foci of hemorrhage and diffuse massive petrification in the macrospecimen, give reason to believe that torsion of the ovarian cyst with the fallopian tube, followed by self-amputation of the uterine appendages, occurred in utero. Like most authors, we consider the indication for surgery in newborns with ovarian cysts to be its large size, the presence of a suspension in the fluid component of the cyst and additional echo structures.
