Abstract

It is an undeniable fact that maritime transportation has a great impact on the world economy. Narrow waterways are as important as ships and ports for maritime transportation. In this context, it is possible to say that narrow waterways are also effective in the world economy. The Bosphorus is one of the most important narrow waterways that play an active role in the world economy. As in every narrow waterway, delays may occur in the Bosphorus, and the waiting periods affect the world economy. This study evaluates the current situation of the Bosphorus ship waiting queues and triggers the improvement of the process. In the article, the current status of the existing waiting queues for the Bosphorus is discussed and process optimization is carried out for the passage of ships in the Bosphorus in order to avoid waiting queues. Considering the current legislation, a tail model was designed for the passage of ships in the Bosphorus, and the current situation was revealed by comparing the designed modeling with the ship passage data of 2020. In addition, in this study, the Istanbul Strait ship transit data for the year 2020 were evaluated with descriptive analyzes of binary and multiple variables. The current situation presented in this study was evaluated together with the outputs of descriptive analyzes and suggestions were made to improve the passage of ships in the Bosphorus.
