Despite rising rates of with injection drug use associated infective endocarditis, medical care of these patients remains fragmented. We report on successfully creating a multidisciplinary endocarditis team and creating an electronic medical record (EMR)-based protocol order set. The EMR-based protocol demonstrates potential benefits in terms of improving patient outcomes, optimizing resource utilization, and facilitating evidence-based decision-making. Further steps include educating clinicians to increase utilization. The integration of electronic medical records in managing injection drug use-associated infective endocarditis represents a step forward in addressing a pressing public health concern.
