Abstract
Data on 65 infants treated surgically for ventricular septal defect by open intracardiac repair are presented, and important features of the preoperative, operative and postoperative care are discussed. The low hospital mortality following surgical repair during a 2-year period and the excellent results support the present policy of recommending operation for infants who fail to thrive under medical management.
