Ulinastatin, A Multivalent Serine Protease Inhibitor, Improves Recovery of Pancreatic Cancer Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Surgery

Abstract

We aimed to explore the effect of an intravenous infusion of lidocaine combined with ulinastatin on perioperative analgesia and recovery for pancreatic cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Postoperative extubation time, time of stay in the recovery room after anesthesia, gastrointestinal function recovery time, and hospital stay in the observation group were all lower in the group receiving ulinastatin. Also, there was a decrease in the Visual Analogue Scale scores for pain at rest and cough in the group receiving ulinastatin. The serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6, interleukin-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α were lower in the group receiving ulinastatin. In summary, ulinastatin improves the effect of lidocaine on perioperative analgesia and postoperative recovery of pancreatic cancer without additional side effects during laparoscopic-assisted surgery.
