Abstract
Influenza A virus (IAV) can infect tissues both within and beyond the respiratory tract, leading to extrapulmonary complications, such as conjunctivitis or gastrointestinal disease. Selective pressures governing virus replication and induction of host responses can vary based on the anatomical site of infection, yet studies examining within-host assessments of genetic diversity are typically only conducted in cells derived from the respiratory tract.
