AbstractThis chapter examines: (i) Bulgaria's resource base and the types and spatial structure of tourism in the country; (ii) Bulgaria's tourism during the post-communist transition; (iii) the transformation trends in Bulgarian tourism; (iv) the tourism infrastructure and markets; and (v) quality issues that could impede tourism development in the country. Bulgarian tourism is also considered in the context of EU enlargement, focusing on patterns of flows, inward investment, and second homes and foreign ownership.
