PATHOGENICITE COMPAREE D’ERWINIA CAROTOVORA VAR. ATROSEPTICA ET VAR. CAROTOVORA PAR INOCULATION DE CULTIVARS DE POMME DE TERRE

Abstract

Three inoculation methods have been used to compare the pathogenicity of Erwinia carotovora var. atroseptica and var. carotovora on different potato cultivars: stem inoculation, inoculation of pregerminated seed pieces and inoculation of non-pregerminated seed pieces. Results could be obtained after only 5 days by stem inoculation. Stem inoculation by E. atroseptica has caused a black soft rot of the stem while E. carotovora caused a rather brown soft rot. A comparison between the two organisms was possible when pregerminated tuber pieces were used, which was not possible without pregermination. The inoculation of pregerminated seed pieces proved to be more adapted to all cultivars than stem inoculation for pathogenicity tests.
