Performing a vibrotactile discrimination task modulates finger representations in primary somatosensory cortex

Abstract

Using multivoxel pattern analysis, we found that discrimination task demands shape finger representations in the contralateral primary somatosensory cortex (S1), and that somatotopic representations are modulated by task demands not only during tactile stimulation but also to a certain extent in the absence of tactile input.
