Abstract

AbstractAlthough the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to pulmonary embolism (PE) has been considerably improved and standardized in recent years, special populations such as pregnant patients and those with impaired renal function or cancer still represent a clinical challenge and a detailed knowledge about the available diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives is mandatory to provide best evidence-based care for these difficult-to-treat patients. Although this review aimed to summarize the most important aspects in this field, the reader is referred to the original studies cited here and dedicated guideline and guidance documents for more detailed information.
