Abstract

A new family of luminescent cyclometalated Ir(iii) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+was prepared. The most cytotoxic complex 2a-Cl locates in lysosomes but acts destroying mitochondria, while 3a-PF6 revelled its potential as photosensitiser in PDT.
