Abstract
With the death of Arthur Kornberg on 26 October 2007, one of the giants of twentieth-century biochemistry was lost. Arthur Kornberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, on 3 March 1918. The son of Joseph and Lena Kornberg, both Eastern European immigrants, he grew up in Brooklyn and attended the City College of New York (CCNY), which was then—and still is—tuition free, and can count several Nobel laureates among its graduates.
