Abstract

Learning Objectives After completing this course, the reader will be able to: Describe the genetic alterations frequently observed in GBM tumors as well as the cell signal transduction pathways that are aberrantly activated in these tumors.Discuss the clinical benefit recently associated with temozolomide chemotherapy for patients with GBM.Identify mediators of signal transduction pathways that are attractive targets of novel therapeutics in GBM patients.Understand the potential benefit associated with regionally administered therapies for GBM patients as a means to overcome drug delivery limitations into the central nervous system caused by the blood–brain barrier.Describe the rationale for combination regimens incorporating novel targeted agents for GBM patients.
