Abstract
AbstractPeptide‐based media is attracting attention as a new drug discovery modality. Medium‐sized peptide drugs possess the combinatorial properties of conventional small‐molecule drugs and biopharmaceuticals, such as antibodies. They are highly specific against target proteins, and they can be synthesized cost effectively. Because peptide drugs exhibit unique structural qualities, the standardization of manufacturing, quality evaluation, and safety assessment of these drugs are urgently required. In this regard, peptide drugs with several secondary structures have been developed, and evaluation of their secondary structures is considered key for their quality assessment. In this review, we introduce recent trends in the development of peptide therapeutics and methods for evaluating peptide drug structures.
