Firmicutes / Clostridia / Clostridiales / Vallitaleaceae / Vallitalea
The genus
Vallitalea
at the time of writing, comprises three species with validly published names,
Vallitalea guaymasensis
, which was isolated from sediments of Guaymas Basin,
Vallitalea okinawensis
, isolated from Okinawa Trough sediment, and
Vallitalea pronyensis
, obtained from a shallow submarine hydrothermal field in Prony Bay in the south of New Caledonia. The species of the genus are thermotolerant or mesophilic, moderately halophilic and strictly anaerobic, and they present a fermentative growth on some carbohydrates. Phylogenetic analyses using 16S rRNA gene sequences placed the three species as belonging to the phylum
