Carbon Footprint: Scientometric Analysis of Publications From The Capes Thesis and Dissertations Database, Brazil

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific interest in the theme of Carbon Footprint in postgraduate programs in Brazil.   Theoretical Framework: The impact of human activities on nature, based on the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, forms the Carbon Footprint. Scientometrics is defined as the study of measuring and quantifying scientific progress on a given theme. The CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations is the official database of the Brazilian government.   Method: Descriptive research, with a quantitative approach to the term carbon footprint, carried out by means of a bibliometric study. Data was collected from the CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations and from published articles.   Results and Discussion: 87 scientific works were found on the theme of Carbon Footprint, from 2 works in 2010 to 13 works in 2023, which generated 44 papers, most of them classified as Qualis A1. Agrarian Sciences and Interdisciplinary were the areas that stood out among the postgraduate programs.   Research Implications: Knowledge and the need to advance research into estimating the carbon footprint of different production activities.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by highlighting scientific production on the theme of Carbon Footprint.
