Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine slow variables and fast variables that affect rapid changes in the Batang Regional Marine Protected Area (MPA).   Methods: This research uses the mix method using quantitative analysis (cross tabulation) and qualitative analysis. Data collection using observation techniques, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews.   Results and discussion: The results showed that there was no relationship between the level of understanding of people related to change and gender, there was no relationship between the level of understanding of change and community membership because the significance result was >0.05. The results of the indept-interview explained that people have a high dependence on nature, when nature changes, people need to adapt.  An early handling system is needed to prevent further changes, with appropriate government policies and support from the community, it can immediately encourage vulnerable communities to become resilient.   Implications of the research: The results of identifying fast and slow changes in the socio-ecological system are useful as a more comprehensive evaluation, so as to determine policies that are more pro to the environment.   Originality/value: The results of this study provide different research results, namely examining the socio-ecological system by identifying fast and slow changes due to power plants.
