Abstract
Abstract
This paper is a review of modern Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis of surface species. Emphasis is placed on the quantitative nature of various surface analytical techniques. In each section, a brief description of theory precedes the application examples, in particular for the surface analysis of polymeric materials. Results obtained by dispersive instruments or for nonpolymeric materials are also given whenever appropriate. This review is intended for a beginner to appreciate the state-of-the-art surface quantitative FT-IR techniques and for one more experienced is a convenient collection of introductory theory and experimental examples which serve as a reminder whenever they are needed.
