Abstract
Estradiol-17β, diethylstilbestrol, and zearalenone stimulated the deposition of a 235U tracer at levels of 18.6% in the femora and tibiotarsi, 4.0% in the livers, and 2.0% in the kidneys of male Japanese quail. Ethynylestradiol-17α stimulated only 6% uranium deposition in the leg bones but 7.7% in the livers and 6.8% in the kidneys. Corresponding control values were 1.9, 0.37, 0.36, 2.2, 0.59, and 0.53%, respectively. Cholecalciferol, corticosterone, o,p′-DDT, progesterone, and testosterone were ineffective. The mechanism of estrogen interaction with the fermora and tibiotarsi discriminated between estradiol and ethynylestradiol, and thus differed from the estrogen receptor system in the liver.
