Distorted-wave Born approximation analysis for the reaction 12C(p,d)11C at 100 MeV

Abstract

A distorted-wave Born approximation analysis of the 12C(p,d)11C reaction at 100 MeV has been performed by using the local-energy approximation for the finite-range correction. The neutron was assumed to be picked up from a bound state in a real Saxon–Woods well. The proton potential was fixed and a search was made to extract the deuteron optical potential parameters by fitting the angular distribution of the ground-state transition. Analysis of the excited states was carried out with all potential parameters fixed. Fairly good agreement with experiment has been obtained for the ground state, the 2.0-MeV excited state, and the 4.80-MeV excited state. Transitions to the 4.31-MeV state and states in the 6.9-MeV region were discussed. The spectroscopic factors extracted from experiment were generally smaller than those predicted by Cohen and Kurath, based on the intermediate-coupling shell model. The deuteron optical potential obtained is fairly reasonable with a real well depth slightly deeper than the expected value deduced from the elastic scattering of nucleons.
