Abstract
The driving force behind the present work is the development of a new visible, tunable solid-state laser based on copper (I)-doped β-alumina. The characteristic blue/green emission of this material would make it the first tunable inorganic solid-state laser to operate in this region. An important stage in this work is the spectral characterisation of copper (I) in the β-alumina host. We report on time and frequency domain fluorescence measurements as well as spectral measurements of absorption and excitation.
