Goniotomy for pigmentary glaucoma: Case series report

Abstract

Pigmentary glaucoma (PG) is characterized by pigment deposition in the trabecular meshwork, which may obstruct the aqueous outflow and result in elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) with optic nerve damage associated with visual field defect. There were three eyes (two patients) of PG who underwent 120° and 240° goniotomy (GT). At the 12-month follow-up visit, IOP of all cases was controlled with a reduction of ocular hypotensive medications. In conclusion, GT is effective and safe for PG, with the advantage of preserving the conjunctiva, and may be an appropriate surgical treatment for PG.
