A rare generational presentation of Best's vitelliform macular dystrophy

Abstract

A mother and son were referred to our Retina OPD with complaints of decreased vision for 4 months; the mother additionally complains of distorted vision. The best corrected visual acuity at presentation was 6/6 in the right eye and 6/9 in the left eye for the son and 6/9 in both eyes for the mother. Near vision was N6 for both. The posterior segment showed small egg yolk-like lesions at the macula for the son and larger scrambled egg-like lesions for the mother. The presentation typically lines with Best's vitelliform macular dystrophy. We would like to report this case series as it is rare to see two generations present at the same time with this disease however asymmetric it is.
