Abstract
Open science is a current approach that promotes scientific collaboration, free access to publications and data, transparency and reusability of information, open education, and citizen science. Higher education institutions are increasingly participating in this phenomenon, so the objective of this work is to reflect on open science as a global trend, its impact on open innovation and education, as well as on the quality management of higher education institutions. For this, the activities carried out within the Academic Network for Quality Research are taken as the unit of analysis, in which 17 educational organizations from Ecuador, Cuba and Colombia participate. The contributions of the Network include relevant contributions to open education (webinars and mirror classes), scientific collaboration in projects, scientific observatories, the collaborative preparation of articles and their publication in open access journals. However, the institutions that make up the Network have different development degrees of their infrastructure for effective participation in the various activities related to open science.
