Abstract
(Abstracted from JAMA Pediatr 2023;177(6):617–624)
Lithium is an element that is common in trace amounts, whereas larger quantities are often used as a mood-stabilizing medication for bipolar disorders. The mechanism of action of lithium in the brain is unknown, but there are many theories; one postulated mechanism of action of lithium overlaps with neurodevelopment and autism.
