Abstract
Waste management has become one of the most pressing challenges facing the world today, with the increasing population and urbanization leading to an exponential increase in waste generation. Hence, sustainable waste management which includes a hygienic environment, providing waste recycling and re-use logistics, and managing the consumption pattern of the local community are key components of a green economy. The study adopts a systemic and desktop review of the literature to explore the role of Local government (as the closest government to the people) in sustainable waste management for a green economy.
