Abstract

The role of colleges in community development programs is often too prominent. Colleges often take over the process of solving problems that occur in the community. Based on participatory community development theories, the community becomes the main actor in identifying the problem formulation process to resolution and conclusion. Furthermore, universities often focus on the action aspect and weaken the emphasis on research. Problem-solving using what point of view is good according to community development facilitators rather than community members' point of view. Based on these concerns, this chapter aims to sharpen participatory community engagement implementation strategies based on balanced and targeted actions and research. The authors provide a new perspective and tactical strategies that can be used as a reference for facilitators to reduce egos as central actors in community-based research. In the suggested framework, researchers also highlight the important role of service learning in implementing participatory community-based research. Student involvement is an important point that can bridge the gap highlighted in this study.
