Abstract

Since the Salamanca Statement was published in 1994, an exceptionally large number of studies have given attention to the issue of inclusive education. However, there is still a lack of progress, mainly due to persistent educational and social inequalities. The necessity of a critical look at inclusive education is a goal and a challenge for educational systems globally. Drawing upon the literature insights from our systematic search, we highlighted pedagogical practices as indicators for inclusion. This chapter presents an overview of the current development in inclusive education, namely focusing on the social and academic inclusion practices as key indicators that promote inclusive education. This review provides supportive information for all teachers.
