Training Framework for Frontline Health Workers on Climate Change and Health

Abstract

Climate change poses a fundamental hazard to human health. The greatest issue of this century, as stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), is the impact of climate change on public health. The IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) has determined that climate risks are manifesting at an accelerated pace and will intensify earlier than previously anticipated. It affects the physical environment as well as all aspects of human and natural systems, including the functioning of health systems and the social and economic settings. The escalating frequency of climate change-induced severe events, such as heatwaves, floods, tropical storms, and hurricanes, will significantly exacerbate health impacts. Approximately 3.6 billion individuals worldwide reside in regions that are extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The weather, unpredictability in climate, and climate change have a direct impact on human health. The chapter suggest a training framework for frontline health workers on climate change and health in the Indian context.
