Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Healthcare 4.0/5.0, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics has shown immense potential in transforming patient care. However, the deployment of these technologies in human-robot interactions (HRI) demands a delicate balance between efficiency and transparency. This chapter explores the research directions and challenges associated with the implementation of Explainable AI (XAI) in the context of HRI for the advancement of healthcare services. The authors delve into the critical aspects of ensuring transparency and interpretability in AI-driven robotic systems, emphasizing the need for explainability to foster trust and collaboration between healthcare professionals, patients, and intelligent robotic entities. The chapter highlights key challenges, proposes potential research directions, and suggests methodologies to address the complexities in deploying XAI within the healthcare ecosystem.
