Abstract

This chapter evaluates the relation of the lean manufacturing (LM) and sustainable manufacturing (SM) to determine the grade level of the lean-sustainable manufacturing relation (LSMR), evaluating the industrial waste reduction, as one of the seven pillars of the LM and the adequate waste management, as one basic characteristic of the SM. This investigation was made in three steps in an electronic industry installed in the Mexicali city, being (1) an evaluation of the industrial waste in the manufacturing areas; (2) design, development, and application as a pilot test of a new automatized device in industrial operations that generates the major quantity of defective products as industrial waste; and (3) a correlation analysis applying the ANOVA test and the Cronbach's Alpha analysis to validate the LSMR as the sustainable practices. The productivity and quality indices increased with these relevant aspects, along this investigation process. This scientific study was made in 2022.
