Abstract
Hydrophobia, a profound fear of water, has traditionally been addressed through various therapeutic interventions, with exposure therapy being a primary method. However, the advent of virtual reality (VR) technology has revolutionized therapeutic approaches, introducing virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) as a promising alternative. This chapter delves into the application of VRET for hydrophobia, exploring its mechanisms, advantages, and outcomes. While VRET presents numerous advantages, such as eliminating the need for in vivo exposure and ensuring patient confidentiality, it is not without limitations. The chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the technological aspects, patient experiences, and future prospects of VRET for hydrophobia, emphasizing the need for further research and technological advancements in the field.
