Abstract
This review examines the escalating threat of cyber terrorism in health information systems (HIS), highlighting the increasing frequency and sophistication of cyber-attacks targeting the healthcare sector. Healthcare institutions, holding critical data like electronic health records (EHR) and personally identifiable information (PII), are prime targets for cybercriminals. The study explores key security challenges, including ransomware, data breaches, denial of service attacks, and IoT vulnerabilities. Through a comprehensive literature review and bibliometric analysis, the study investigates encryption, blockchain technology, and training programs for healthcare providers. It also evaluates cybersecurity frameworks and emphasizes the need for continuous innovation in security measures. The findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity strategies to protect patient data and ensure the integrity of healthcare services. This review aims to initiate a dialogue on strengthening the cybersecurity resilience of healthcare systems.
