Modern healthcare quality has been under increasing pressure. Wireless Body Area Networks have enabled better monitoring of health and reduced costs. A wireless body area network comprises miniature sensors that can be worn or implanted to record a person’s health data. The uninterrupted and quick access to a patient’s health status makes it easier for the doctor to diagnose in an emergency. The network uses C.S.M.A/C.A during data transmission. With packet collision and loss being two significant issues, we designed an enhanced algorithm to improve the overall performance and Quality of Service of the Wireless Body Area Networks by introducing aging factors. The algorithm avoids unnecessary long backoff periods and brief backoff periods that lead to performance degradation, improving various Quality of Service parameters like packet reception rate, packets received per node, consumed energy, estimated network lifetime, and packet loss rate.
