Phase coupling of acoustic and optical modes in antiferromagnetic materials CrCl3

Abstract

Abstract In layered antiferromagnetic material CrCl3, due to the antiferromagnetic coupling between two magnetic sublattices, there are two antiferromagnetic resonance modes, called acoustic mode with in-phase precession and optical mode with out-of-phase precession. By using Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation, we study the magnetization dynamics of the two sublattices in CrCl3. A coupling resonance mode appears at the coupling point when the acoustic and optical magnon modes are tuned by an applied magnetic field, which is called ‘coupling mode’. In this paper, we present an explanation for the coupling of the acoustic and the optical mode. Our calculation shows that the coupling of the acoustic and optical mode is accomplished by change of the precession phase-difference between two magnetic sublattices.
