Abstract
Fatty pancreas is commonly observed on abdominal ultrasonography. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the clinical significance and the severity of fatty pancreas. This review article summarized previous studies describing the criteria for severity grading and diagnosis, the importance of ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool, and the clinical significance of the relationship between fatty pancreas and inflammation and cancer. Furthermore, the manuscript attempted to demonstrate the clinical, molecular, and cellular associations of fatty pancreas with metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome.
