Abstract

The incorporation of succinic acid- [1,4-14C2] into the lactone ring of magnamycin was reinvestigated. A degradation was carried out which made possible the selective determination of radioactivity in the aldehyde-C-atom of magnamycin. Only 3 per cent of the total radioactivity was located in this C-atom. Therefore, it is very unlikely that succinic acid is a precursor for C-atoms 5 —8 of magnamycin.
