4. In the absence of net magnetic moments (e. g., as in uncanted anti-ferromagnetic substances with perfectly matched anti-parallel alignment of opposing sublattices) χ″ is zero. Hence, the AC measurement can be used to distinguish between transitions to 3-D antiferromagnetic versus ferro-or ferri-magnetic ground states.
